PEP (Politically Exposed Person)
An individual with a prominent public function, or a close associate/family member, who may pose elevated bribery or corruption risk.
Definition
A Politically Exposed Person (PEP) is typically defined by regulations and guidance in each jurisdiction. PEP status does not mean wrongdoing, but it often triggers enhanced due diligence and stronger ongoing monitoring. Programs commonly include domestic PEPs, foreign PEPs, and international organization PEPs.
